Your Brain Hates You!

I hate pain. All pain. Pain hurts. Pain is suppose to be the body's warning signal that something really bad is going on, which is fine. But why can't the body tone it down a bit, instead of us going through the agony of extreme pain? Especially over& over again over the same thing.

Pain is felt by nerves, which has to answer to the brain. They are connected to the brain through our nervous system... My problem with this is I guess our brains. Do our brains think that we're so stupid, that it's necessary to feel pain constantly when we hurt something? Think about a burn. In my opinion, there's nothing much worse than a burn. Pain can go on & on for quite some time, depending on the burns severity. Why the hell is it necessary to feel the pain of the burn consistently? Does our brain think that we'll forget about that fleshy, blistering smear stretched up the arm due to a violent accident with a toaster? Why would our brain think we'd forget? There's a conundrum for you.

How about a tooth ache? Ever have one of those so bad that there is no rest, no relief, no mercy? You can feel the swelling running up your face & down your neck, can barely open your eyes due to the pain. I don't mean having to deal with a cavity. I'm talking about the "It's time to go to the hospital before you die of infection" type of thing. Ever been through that? And you still think that your brain doesn't hate you? I would think that there's got to be a better way! Maybe override your decision making area & throw you into robot mode, that forces you to head to the nearest medical facility. Well, I guess that's the same concept as night of the living dead, but you know what I mean. But the brain chooses pain. Damn thing!

To support the case over how cruel the brain can be, I give you phantom pains. How tormenting to the unfortunate individual who is missing any particular part of the body, that they feel pain in the part that is now gone! It's not enough that you no longer have that leg, but your brain that hates you, is giving you an invisible pain on your invisible knee as a reminder! How evil is that?

  1. Pain does sometimes suck... but can it teach us anything? Can it be the carrot that leads us to new levels?

Yeah... I know... not what you meant, but I can't help myself! ;-)

    Good post!

  3. Don't you just hate those pains that feel like someone has a voodoo doll of you somewhere, when all of a sudden you get what feels like a needle through your body, reducing you to near tears???

    Another great blog Bob!

  5. i was thinking about this recently too, and i've come to the conclusion that the reason our brains send our bodies constant messages of pain is to tell us "fix me, NOW!" the more urgent an injury/infection/etc. is, the louder the brain screams to us that something needs to change that. and yes, it does suck, but if our brains didn't send us intense pain, a lot of us would go weeks or months without getting something treated and then die, etc. =) haha

  6. Some of us have higher pain thresholds than others. I think mine is somewhat high, but I'll never really know, since I can't feel another person's pain.

  7. A pedophile stalker is roaming Blogger Help Forum for more than two weeks now, and moderator „nitecruzr“ alias Chuck Croll is still into his Bruno L. schtick, against better knowledge, see here:

    http://rabhines.blogspot.com

Croll knows the avatars of the stalker and impersonator. He has read L’s alert blog and knows that L. is molested by this anonymous pervert since three years. He knows that the pedophile stalker has an avatar here under „NikolaiDersauger“, i.e. NikolaitheCocksucker in German. Further, he knows that the pervert is posting messages under „DerSaugerNikolai“ at YouTube, see this screenshot:

    or directly at Youtube:

(though Youtube will delete the messages today, as every day for three years)

Karsten Gulden, here impersonated by the pedophile, is a renown German lawyer, specialized in internet law. See this link:

    http://www.ggr-rechtsanwaelte.de/index.php?id=14

    Mr. Gulden is notified.

And still Croll doesn’t see fit to take action? It’s the easiest thing in the world to compare IPs, but Croll and his colleagues simply do nothing – more, they do delete all legitimate questions by other, long-time members of this forum.

All members of this forum have to endure this chaos because the moderators agree with impersonation, libel, and child pornography?

Google Legal Department is notified about that matter.

The stalker is posting here under meanwhile 20 (!) different avatars:

  8. Very interesting post! It makes you wonder, "Is pain really necessary?" but then you think of all the things it can warn you about, you begin to think "How much is necessary?" Great job on your awesome blog, buddy.

  9. Actually pain is highly subjective to your state of mind. There are people who've trained to bring pain to a minimal level regardless of what you got struck by. And pain is NOT received by nerves. Sensations are. The feeling of pain is brought on by the brain depending on the impact of the wound/strike. It's also a combination of certain sensations such as tension, pressure, etc. Not to mention, phantom limbs is also an interesting one. They feel pain because the nerves which are cut off and remain kind of go through an inflammatory process. Read the book Phantoms of the Brain and you'll understand why. Not to mention, phantom pain is brought on by the brain's elasticity. A part of your brain will take over where the lost limb went and the remaining nerves of the limb are thus highly confused. Your brain is not cruel, but it's a highly perplexing muscle. And yes it DOES need to remind you as often as it can how bad something hurts. It's not an assumption of whether you're too dumb to remember. It's an assumption of the fact that you need to build tolerance. Once a part of your body is hit specifically and consistently, the pain will slowly and minimally subside. That's how it is.

  10. Toothache? Try childbirth. I mean if there's one time the brain should actually just shut down and not respond to nerves, it's the period of time when one goes into labor until one has actually popped out the baby. Sorry, I guess the pain is still to vivid for me to compare it to anyone else.

  13. Try functioning with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. Disassociation from reality and exposure to a phenomenon by way of experiencing a consciousness the human brain isn't built to be exposed to. When those inter-brain electrical circuits mis-fire on you to the point of convulsion, self-injury or extreme intelligence and universal awareness (one of the GIFTS of TLE), you get back to me.

Hopefully, you'll have some appreciation for your very worthy of admiration brain. I got nothing but love for my Temporal Lobe, it's not her fault, and I cherish my brain and mind, despite the pain and anguish they're capable and eager to provide.

  14. Another conundrum: when the pain is not your fault! The mean kid on the playground pushed your kid off the monkey bars, now the have a broken arm and they're in pain and agony until two weeks is served of their six week cast sentence! Then they are not in pain, but they are terrible itchy and uncomfortable. Thank you, brain.
